(Missourinet) - The Missouri Supreme Court says no to allowing transgender treatments.

The high court has upheld a 2023 law banning gender transition treatments for minors and blocking Medicaid coverage for such care.

Several civil rights groups, and the mother of a child wanting to change gender -- sued the State of Missouri over the bans.

In a unanimous decision, the court affirmed a lower court’s judgement that the SAFE Act and Medicaid ban do not violate equal protection, due process, or other constitutional requirements.

The state ban -called the SAFE Act - prohibits gender transition surgery on, and prescription or administration of cross-sex hormones or puberty-blocking drugs for “any individual under eighteen years of age.
