Fatal crash claims life of Girard man Monday morning

A man from Girard, Kansas, was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning, north of Pittsburg.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says it happened at the intersection of Highway 69 and Highway 160.

21-year-old Matthew Jeffrey Westhoff-Strode was traveling east through the intersection when he was hit by a pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old boy, who failed to stop at a red light.

Westhoff-Strode was pronounced dead a short time later.

The teenager was not injured.
