Heat watches and advisories in effect across Missouri

(Missourinet) A Heat Advisory is now in effect through Sunday evening for the Kansas City area and all of northwestern Missouri.

A second Heat Advisory will took effect at noon on Saturday and lasts through Sunday night for most of southwestern Missouri.

And a third Heat Advisory took effect at noon Saturday and lasts through Tuesday night for the rest of Missouri. Heat index values soared well above 100 degrees for several hours at a time over the weekend and are expected to do the same early into the week ahead.

The St. Louis area is under an Extreme Heat Watch, that started Saturday afternoon and lasting through Tuesday night. The heat index in and around St. Louis is expected to hit near 110 degrees. The good news? The arrival of summer also means the days will start getting shorter.
