Historic Murphysburg Preservation receives Missouri Humanities Council Grant

Historic Murphysburg Preservation, Inc. was recently awarded a $2,500 grant from The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC).
MHC is the only statewide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages. It has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.
MHC is dedicated to enriching lives and strengthening communities by connecting Missourians with the people, places, and ideas that shape our society.
Paula Callihan, HMP board treasurer, said the money will be used to print their newly designed publication outlining some of Joplin’s untold history.
The booklet is titled “Celebrating the Architecture & History of the Houses in the Murphysburg Historic District.”
The goal in writing the booklet was to produce a permanent comprehensive record to ensure Joplin’s cultural and historical legacy is shared with current and future generations.
Once the booklets are printed, they will be available upon request and at select locations.
