State Senator Jill Carter discussing special session achievements

The recent special session of the Missouri Legislature achieved their main goals.

State Senator Jill Carter told Newstalk KZRG:

“There were essentially three bills that passed the legislature that was Senate bill one that had to do with and you could put these bills in probably three categories. One had to do with disaster relief, one was the stadium package and then one was real estate property tax freezes. The property tax freeze was something the governor added on Wednesday, halfway through the special session at our request. You know, we’re talking about these savings. I’ve been on the radio before talking about the importance of trying to get something for the average Missourian like myself and those people in our community who are trying to pay their tax bills. So he extended that call on Wednesday. That was part of the stadium package.”

The real estate property tax bill is designed to freeze property taxes on seniors so as not to tax them out of their homes.

The Chiefs and Royals got an offer to stay in Missouri during the recent special session.

State Senator Jill Carter told Newstalk KZRG:

“I was under the assumption that what the stadium package was coming out of general revenue. That ended up not being the case. What they did was the stadiums aren’t even owned by the teams. The stadiums are owned and leased by Jackson County. And so that was something else that I wasn’t privy to prior. So when you realize that they’re leasing property, they’re wanting to refurbish or rebuild and upgrade somebody else’s property. And what they’re asking for is to use the sales tax. They generate a portion of that to offset the cost of remodeling.”
