Kehoe declares state of emergency ahead of statewide anti-immigration protests

Governor Mike Kehoe has declared a state of emergency ahead of statewide anti-immigration protests.
The state of emergency includes activating the Missouri National Guard, which the governor’s office calls a “precautionary measure.”
The rallies, many of which will be led by the “No Kings” group, will protest President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants in Los Angeles, which has sparked violent protests and rioting there.
More than 30 pro-immigrant and anti-ICE rallies are scheduled Saturday across Missouri, including in the Kansas City and St. Louis regions, Maryville, Kirksville, Jefferson City, Joplin, and West Plains.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas’s Office says unnecessary National Guard escalation from our nation’s capital and state capitols undermines local law enforcement.
