In Parsons: Recent string of burglaries prompts public safety reminder

The Parsons Police Department is urging citizens to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to protect their property following a recent surge in reported burglaries. Over the past week, multiple burglary incidents have been documented, affecting both commercial and residential properties.

Additionally, several vehicles have been targeted and a local storage unit sustained damage. These
reports have been on both sides of the city.

In response, the department is reminding the public of its longstanding message: “See It, Hear It, Report It.”

Prompt reporting of suspicious behavior can make a significant difference in preventing crime and aiding investigations.

“Criminals often look for easy targets. Simple preventative steps can deter them or help us identify and apprehend suspects faster,” said Parsons Police Deputy Chief Dennis Dodd. “We want the public to know they are our eyes and ears—working together is key to protecting our community.”

Tips to Help Prevent Property Crime:

  • Lock all doors and windows – Even when you’re home or stepping out briefly.
  • Install motion lights and security cameras – These can deter criminals and provide evidence if a
    crime occurs.
  • Do not leave valuables in plain sight – Especially in vehicles or near windows.
  • Record serial numbers and take photos – Especially of electronics, tools, and other high-value items.=
  • Report any suspicious activity immediately – No tip is too small when it comes to safety.
  • Secure sheds, garages, and storage units – Use sturdy locks and check them regularly.
  • Get to know your neighbors – Watch out for each other’s property and report anything
    unusual.

While no method can guarantee prevention, these steps can significantly reduce your risk of being
targeted and assist law enforcement in recovering stolen items. As the season gets warmer criminals get
more active and brazen in their criminal activities so be prepared and be aware.

If you would like to have an officer look at your residence to give tips and ideas on securing it or placement of lights or cameras, please feel free to call the police department and ask to speak to Officer Mark Raney, our
Community-Oriented Policing and Problem Solving manager at (620) 421-7060 or email him at
mraney@parsonspdks.gov during normal business hours.

If you need to speak to someone in the evening you can contact Sergeant Keenen Roberts ,who is also a Crime Prevention Specialist, at kroberts@parsonspdks.gov.

These continue to be on-going investigations, and citizens are encouraged to “See It, Hear It,
Report It.”
