Council to discuss agreement with ESC leading to duplexes at 20th and Sergeant

The Joplin City Council meets Monday night.
Members will be asked to authorize to with the Economic Security Corporation (ESC) for the purpose of cooperation in the provision of affordable housing; and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same by and on behalf of the City of Joplin.
The ESC has bought the former hospital building at 2008 S. Sergeant and has plans to demolish the building with city assistance and work with Habitat for Humanity to construct duplexes at that site.
Other items on the agenda include a review of federal grant projects in the city.
The Council will review an ordinance approving the City of Joplin to enter into an agreement with G&G Construction Co. Inc. in the amount of $2,950,500 for construction services on the Turkey Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The Council also will be asked to approve a MoDOT Air Service Grant for air service promotion and marketing at the Joplin Regional Airport.
The meeting gets underway at 6 p.m. Monday night in Council Chambers at 602 S. Main.
