Parks and Recreation completes pruning with help from MDC Forestry Cost-Share Grant

With the assistance of a Community Forestry Cost-share Grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), Joplin Parks and Recreation has completed essential tree care for several area parks.

With this grant, Joplin Parks and Recreation completed its tree inventory and assessed trees for risk at Senator Ron Richard Memorial Park, Campbell Parkway, and Garvin Park. Staff also pruned trees in Senator Ron Richard Memorial Park and Campbell Parkway. These parks are centrally located in Joplin and are a popular destination for the public.

“We’ve had a strong partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation over the years,” said Paul Bloomberg, Parks and Recreation Director. “Their help has made a big difference in keeping our city’s forests healthy, and we truly value their support.”

Community Forestry Cost-share grants assist communities with promoting the benefits of and improving their community forests. MDC’s Community Conservation Program promotes sustainable development practices and the establishment of natural resource conservation practices in municipal and developing areas. Their support helps the City maintain its Tree City USA status.
