Four under arrest in Montgomery County following search

On Thursday, April 10, 2025, deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, agents from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), and officers from the Cherryvale Police Department executed a search warrant in the 200 block of N. Neosho Street in Cherryvale, Kansas.

All occupants located inside the residence at the time of the warrant were safely detained during the operation.

The search warrant was obtained as part of an ongoing investigation involving multiple burglaries and suspected narcotics activity.

During the search, officers located over 6 grams of powder fentanyl which has a street value of around $6,000.00, methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and multiple firearms and items that were identified as stolen from a current Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office case.

As a result of the evidence located in the residence, the following people were taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections:

  • Ashley Melia: Possession of opiate (Fentanyl), Possession of stimulants (Methamphetamine), Criminal use of weapons; Shotgun barrel < 18″, Use/possess w/intent to use drug paraphernalia into human body.
  • Jeremiah McKenzie: Distribute opiate (Fentanyl) within 1000ft of a school, Criminal possession of a weapon by felon, Criminal use of weapons; Shotgun barrel < 18″, Possession of stimulant (Methamphetamine), Possession of stolen property, Use/possess w/intent to use drug paraphernalia into human body.
  • Ragan Myers: Distribute opiate (Fentanyl) within 1000ft of a school, Criminal use of weapons; Shotgun barrel < 18″, Possession of opiate (Fentanyl), Possession of stimulant (methamphetamine), Possession of stolen property, Use/possess w/intent to use drug paraphernalia into human body.
  • Destany Freeman: Use/possess w/intent to use drug paraphernalia into human body.

Sheriff Ron Wade expressed his appreciation for the diligent work of the deputies involved in this case and extended his gratitude to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Cherryvale Police Department for their assistance and cooperation throughout the operation.

“This case highlights the importance of strong partnerships between agencies,” said Sheriff Wade. “I’m proud of the continued commitment our deputies show in protecting the citizens of Montgomery County and getting this extremely deadly drug off the streets and out of the community.”

This case will be sent to the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office for proper charging. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a Court of Law.
