Man who staged auto accidents and committed insurance fraud sentenced to 18 months in prison

Some people work in retail. Others work in factories.
But a man from Eastern Missouri had a different sort of job.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Missouri says from Sept. 2021 to January 2023 Adrian Peebles staged auto accidents, usually at night in remote areas to reduce the chance of getting caught.
Peebles nearly always claimed to have been injured and went to the emergency room complaining of “pain that required expensive tests that never identified any particular injury,” according to his plea agreement.
Peebles insisted that insurance checks come to him. Then he kept the money.
His scheme cost two insurance companies $107,951.
Peebles, now 32, pleaded guilty in January to one count of mail fraud.
U.S. District Judge Henry E. Autrey on Monday sentenced Peebles to 18 months in prison and ordered him to pay $107,951 in restitution.
