Man arrested for $40k scam in Nevada, Missouri

A man from Kansas City has been accused of scamming a woman from Nevada, Missouri, out of tens of thousands of dollars.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Bhagya Patel told the victim she was being investigated by the federal government for money laundering.
Patel instructed her to withdraw $40,000 to have the situation resolved.
The woman then gave the cash to two people she met in the Nevada Walmart parking lot.
The next day, Patel messaged the woman again, asking for $20,000 more.
The victim called police, who told her to meet with the suspect but not to give them any money.
Authorities took Patel into custody during the scheduled meet up.
They recovered $37,000.
