State Representative Ben Baker on 10 Commandments in classrooms and state Budget

Does state representative Ben Baker support putting the 10 Commandments into every classroom?
“I have always supported this idea and here’s why. The Ten Commandments, even if you were to kind of take them out of the religious context, still represent a set of timeless ethical principles that I think can benefit students and society in general. And displaying these in public schools, I think would promote moral development, which we need more of right now, and I think promote social harmony, regardless of the biblical origins of that.”
State representative Ben Baker went on to say, the 10 Commandments should be put into every classroom.
“You know, there’s universal values there. Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal. These are all foundational principles for just having a society that’s built on trust and safety and justice. You know, honor thy father and thy mother encourages respect for authority and family, which I think is very important and lacking in today’s society. So, you know, schools should already teach values like honesty, respect, responsibility.”
Work on the Missouri budget continues in the Missouri house.
State representative Ben Baker tells Newstalk KZRG:
“We put an extra 50 million in the budget for the Education Savings Account, MoScholars program. That’s a big one this year, where parents can apply for scholarships even for private education. I’ll finally mention I was able to get some funding for the Joplin Police Department again in the budget for the cybercrime task force, which is really important for public safety. Last year, the governor vetoed that, so had to do it again.”
