American Red Cross opens shelters, surveys damage following severe weather in Missouri

SPRINGFIELD, MO (April 3, 2025) — Following yesterday’s severe weather, the American Red Cross is conducting preliminary damage assessments in the affected areas and beginning to distribute emergency supplies.
The role of the Red Cross in any disaster is to focus on addressing the immediate needs of those affected. The Red Cross is coordinating with the affected communities, including government and emergency management officials to determine where and when additional assistance is needed.
The following shelters are open for the community:
· Nevada, MO: Community Center Shelter, 200 N Ash Street
· Delta, MO: Delta High School, 324 N Liberty Street
· Potosi, MO: Community Partner Shelter – Potosi Southern Baptist Church
Identification and/or proof of residency is NOT required to be admitted to a Red Cross shelter. American Red Cross services are free and available to all regardless of race, religious beliefs, nationality, or citizenship status.
Strong storms and flooding are in the forecast for the next few days—take precautions now to stay safe.
· Save your phone calls for emergencies and use text messaging or social media to communicate with family and friends.
· A Flood/Flash Flood WATCH means flooding is possible. Stay alert. A Flood/Flash Flood WARNING means flooding is happening or imminent. Take immediate precautions.
· Plan for Safety: Flash floods can happen fast. Have an evacuation plan and know where to go for higher ground.
· Stay Informed: Follow local emergency management updates and be ready to act.

· Stay clear of fallen power lines or broken utility lines.
· Wear appropriate gear during clean-up such as thick-soled shoes, long pants, and work gloves, use appropriate face coverings or masks if cleaning mold or other debris.
