Former Seneca Vet Clinic under suspicious fire investigation

Just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, the Newton County dispatch center received a call about a structure fire located at the former Seneca Veterinary Clinic on Highway 43 and Kentucky Road in Seneca.

Seneca Fire District as well as New County Ambulance responded along with Newton County Deputies. Seneca City Fire, Wyandotte Fire and Redings Mill Fire were notified as mutual aid.

“I thought our local fire agencies did an excellent job of responding in a timely manner and were able to control the fire and limit the damage to the building and obviously thankful that there were no injuries there,” Newton County Sheriff Matt Stewart told Newstalk KZRG.

When first responders arrived, they found a fire coming from the back of the structure.

“There’s pretty extensive fire damage inside the building, but it was pretty well contained to the one area of that building,” Stewart said.

The fire is currently under a suspicious fire investigation along with the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office.
