PSU Music Department offers summer camps for area youth
For a second year, the Pittsburg State University Music Department will offer a range of musical opportunities for area youth in the “Sounds of Summer” summer camp series. Registration is now open at pittstate.edu/musicsummercamps
Summer Youth Band • June 5
Cost $25 • For high school students • Directed by Associate Professor Andrew Chybowski
Students will work with Pitt State Music faculty and students in a day of music making, learning, and fun that culminates in a 7 p.m. concert at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. Includes meals and activities.
Summer PianoFest • June 12
Cost $35 • For all ages • Directed by Professor Reena Natenberg
Students will experience a day of piano workshops, masterclasses, and a 5 p.m. concert at the Bicknell Center, home to magnificent Steinway Concert Grand pianos on which to perform! Includes meal and activities!
Summer String Camp • June 18-20
Cost $70 • For middle & high school students • Directed by Assistant Professor Ramiro Miranda
Students will elevate their playing and have fun in a technique class, an improvisation session, orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, and masterclasses with Pitt State faculty and students, culminating in a 4 p.m. concert at the Bicknell Center! Includes meals, activities, and two tickets to the “Bach to Bluegrass” concert at 7 p.m. on June 19.
Summer Voice & Audition Techniques Workshop • June 26
Cost $25 • For high school students • Directed by Instructional Professors Patrick Howle and Grace Steiner
Perfect for singers of any genre. Students will improve their solo singing and learn the ins and outs of auditioning for the school musical, regional choir, or a college music program. Explore audition etiquette, repertoire choices, practices to combat performance anxiety, and more! Sing in mock audition with immediate feedback, try a sample voice lesson, and end your day singing a solo in a Summer Music Fest Concert. Includes meal and activities.

This clinic will help students prepare for successful KMEA district and state band and choir auditions, taught by the world-class Pitt State music faculty and music students!
