Mayor Cortez discusses a new Route 66 Mural in Joplin – and discusses community transportation

This Friday afternoon at 1:30, the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau will unveil a Route 66 Tri State Mural in downtown Joplin.
Mayor Keenan Cortez explains to Newstalk KZRG:
“There’s an artist in Carthage that has a really cool picture showing some of the highlights of Route 66, as it moves through our area that is being put on a building right now at Seventh and Main. And on Friday, we’re going to unveil that with a lot of other city leaders from all the communities around us that have something to do with around 66 are going to be there.”
You are invited to the unveiling.
On the KZRG Morning Newswatch Mayor Cortez discussed TIP.
The Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO) is seeking a 7-day public comment period for amendments to the 2022-2025 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
The TIP contains transportation and transit projects in the Joplin Metropolitan Area that are partially funded by Federal transportation programs over a four-year period.
Mayor Keenan Cortez tells Newstalk KZRG:
“It specifically funds the MAP service. And we need to do that so that we can match it locally and keep that service alive and going in our community. So I don’t know if I necessarily say there’s changes that we’re trying to do. This is something that we do every 3 to 4 years anyway. It’s a federal requirement that we must show proof and show that this what we’re using the money for, here’s how it services our community, here’s how it betters our citizens.”
