City of Neosho addresses animal control concerns

NEOSHO, MO — The City of Neosho would like to provide residents with an update regarding Animal Control services within the city limits.
Over the past several months, area animal shelters have suspended animal intake due to ongoing capacity issues. As a result, the City made the decision not to fill the Animal Control Officer position at this time.
Without shelter intake options, the City is unable to fulfill the full scope of the position’s responsibilities.
Despite this, the Neosho Police Department continues to respond to animal-related calls and will handle them to the best of their ability, including issuing citations for dogs running at large, excessive barking, and other violations of city ordinance.
Residents may see the Animal Control vehicle in operation throughout the city. It is currently being utilized for Code Enforcement.
The City of Neosho remains committed to public safety and community well-being. We appreciate the public’s understanding and patience as we navigate the shelter intake issues and consider alternative solutions if they become available.
For questions or concerns, please contact the Neosho Police Department at 417-451-8012.
