Joplin Audit to be released this summer – Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick

Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick on the KZRG Morning Newswatch discussed the City of Joplin audit, the Carterville petition audit, and oversight of marijuana tax revenue. 

Fitzpatrick said the Joplin audit fieldwork is complete and they are moving into the report drafting phase, with findings expected to be managerial and less severe than in the previous audit.   The report is set to be released this summer. 

The Carterville audit, initiated by a citizen petition, is in its early stages, focusing on the concerns raised by petitioners while examining city operations. 

Additionally, Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick emphasized the need for enhanced oversight of new state wide marijuana tax revenue, as the Department of Revenue has yet to audit these returns, highlighting the importance of proper verification for accurate tax collection.
