Joplin mayor Cortez – Remembering fallen officers – MAPS update

On the KZRG Morning Newswatch Monday, mayor Keenan Cortez discussed the Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization’s call for public comments on transportation improvements, including challenges due to COVID-19 affecting vehicle procurement and the importance of the Metro Area Paratransit System (MAPS) in providing transportation for disabled individuals. 

The mayor also addressed the city’s readiness for severe weather, detailing coordination efforts with the National Weather Service to manage storm sirens effectively. 

In a poignant segment, he reflected on the 3rd anniversary Saturday, of two fallen Joplin police officers, Corporal Ben Cooper and Officer Jake Reed, emphasizing the need for community support for law enforcement.
