A man from Sunrise Beach, Missouri received a 10-year-sentence for his involvement in a fatality boating accident.

However, Bobby Gene Childers could receive only probation following completion of a 120-day “shock” treatment program.

44-year-old Nicolette McKenna, a passenger in the boat, died at the scene.

The accident took place in August 2023 when Bobby Childers was driving a boat too close to the dock at the Lake of the Ozarks when it hit a wake and then a breakwater – a built in barrier that keeps heavy waves from hitting the harbor or dock.

The accident took place at almost 8 p.m.

According to court papers, Childers admitted drinking too much to a Missouri State Trooper shortly after the accident and lab results showed him to have a .161 blood alcohol content.

He reportedly told troopers he was traveling between bars.

Last year, Childers entered an Alford Plea, refusing to admit guilt but understanding that sufficient evidence exists to him to be convicted in court.
