Hawley says Trump’s budget proposal stresses no cuts to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid

President Trump’s outline for a federal budget is in the hands of the U.S. Senate after passing the House last week.

Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley tells Newstalk KZRG there’ll be some changes from the House version, but also says:

“One of the things the President has been very clear about, which I think is important in this context, is he said he wants no cuts to Medicaid, Medicare or Social Security. And I think that’s a very important set of guidelines to adhere to, and that’s certainly how I’m going to be focusing my attention.”

That said, House Republicans have been pushing for two Trillion dollars in spending cuts to “mandatory” federal spending, which includes Medicare and Medicaid.

The House budget blueprint also includes a 100-billion-dollar increase in defense spending and an additional 90 billion dollars for homeland security.
