Missouri proposal to require completing driver’s ed courses before graduating

Missouri does not require higher schoolers to complete driver’s education courses before graduation, but that could change.

Windsor Republican Representative Rodger Reedy is proposing to require the state Board of Education to develop a driver education instruction and training program for public schools.

Under his bill, the coursework will cover safe vehicle operation, distracted driving hazards, and traffic stop procedures.

The program does not require operating the vehicle but does not prevent additional driver’s ed courses.

The program will be offered as part of the health curriculum for students in grades 9-through-12 by fall of 2026.

The bill could be introduced in a House committee soon.
