Motorcycle rider seriously injured after hitting a dog in the roadway

There was bizarre accident just after 3:30 p.m. Monday two miles west of Neosho on Oak Road in Newton County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a 44-year-old man was riding a 1999 Yamaha motorcycle when he hit a dog in the roadway.
That caused the rider to be ejected from the motorcycle.
He was taken to a hospital in Joplin.
The Highway Patrol says he was not wearing a safety device.
He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
The Highway Patrol no longer identifies the names of accident victims.
