Grove woman in custody for fatal DWI crash near Fidelty
A woman from Grove, Oklahoma, is now in custody in connection to a fatal DWI crash that took place on Christmas Eve.
43-year-old Jennifer Maupin was taken into custody Monday night and is being held in the Lawrence County Jail.
On December 24, 2024, Maupin was allegedly behind the wheel of a Hummer SUV that crossed the center line of Highway 59, near Fidelity, and hit another vehicle head-on.
That crash killed 37-year-old Tou Xiong, of Sarcoxie.
Court documents say Maupin was going well over the speed limit when she passed another vehicle and collided with Xiong’s Kia Soul.
Deputies say she refused to take a breathalyzer test at the scene but an officer says he could smell the odor of an intoxicating beverage.
