Joplin Outlaws to hold host families event at Hackett Hot Wings

Are you a fan of the baseball lifestyle? Do you take pride in helping others? Do you like free chicken wings? If you answered yes to any of those questions, the Joplin Outlaws may have an opportunity just for you.

The Joplin Outlaws are holding a host family recruiting event at 6 p.m. on Feb. 27 at Hackett Hot Wings at 520 S. Main St in Joplin.

“The event is really for anyone who is interested in being a host family, anybody who knows someone that might be interested in being a host family or host families who have already committed to coming back for another year,” Joplin Outlaws General Manager Konor Lathrop said to Newstalk KZRG. “Host families are the backbone of summer collegiate baseball and it’s not possible without them.

“The event is also an opportunity to see what being a host family is like. If you show up to Hackett Hot Wings and say, ‘I am interested in becoming a host family,’ we do not expect a commitment that night. It’s a great opportunity to network with other host families.”

There are plenty of reasons to become a host family for the Joplin Outlaws, according to Lathrop.

“Being a host family, you really make a difference in players’ lives,” he said. “That’s just an intangible perk. We have host families who stay in contact with players over years. It’s like adopting a kid into your home because that’s what it is. You’re bringing a kid into your home and taking care of him for a couple of months and you want to see them succeed because it’s like a new member of your family.”

Host families also get four season passes with reserve seating anywhere in the stadium per the family’s choice, invitations to special events in and out of season, host family recognition during games throughout the season, discounts on Outlaws merchandise, exclusive host family merchandise and discounts on concessions.
