Joplin SWAT investigate shots fired near home on Markwart Avenue

Joplin SWAT team members spent much of their Thursday night at a home near Eastmoreland Elementary School.
The Joplin Emergency Communications Center began receiving 911 calls about a disturbance with a weapon at 2822 E Markwart Street in Joplin.
Police say some callers reported hearing at least two gunshots and possibly one coming from inside the residence. When officers got to the scene, they contacted an adult male walking out of the residence who appeared to be suffering injuries.
That man reported that he had been assaulted by another man at that location and said that a firearm had been involved in the altercation.
Additional information was obtained that the suspect and possibly three other people were still inside the residence.
The man that was initially contacted was transported to a local hospital with non-life threating injuries. Officers on scene then attempted to make contact with anyone inside the residence.
After numerous attempts were made to contact the remaining people inside the residence, Joplin SWAT responded due to the reports of gunshots and the nature of the incident. Detectives with the Joplin Police Department obtained a search warrant for the residence.
Following the execution of the search warrant, no one was located inside the home.
At this time, the Joplin Police Department does not believe there is a threat to the public and this was an isolated event.
The investigation continues and anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Joplin Police Department at 417-623-3131 extension: 1442.***
