Joplin Sports Facility on the agenda Tuesday night – Trolley starting back up

The Joplin City Council meets on Tuesday night.
One of the items on the agenda will be a Joplin sports facility community improvement district.
Mayor Keenan Cortez told Newstalk KZRG:
“We have drawn a boundary that would be included in the CID, as its known a community improvement district, which would establish an additional 1% tax on those businesses included within that map. Those revenues would go to fund the indoor sports facility that we’re looking to establish here in our community.”
The proposed indoor sports facility would be built east of Rangeline and south of 20th street on the old International Paper property.
The Joplin Sunshine Lamp Trolley system is set to restart service.
Mayor Cortez said:
“We have a large population here in Joplin that depends on that public transportation, and it’s been gone now for a couple of years. We’re going to bring it back early next month. Early in February, you’re going to see the trolley running again.”
The city is still looking for a couple of part-time drivers.
