Sen. Josh Hawley sponsoring ‘Travis’s Law’
Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley is sponsoring legislation that could keep some illegal immigrants jailed without bond for crimes harming children.
It’s called “Travis’s Law,” which is named for Travis Wolfe.
He was killed in a traffic crash in December 2023 allegedly by an undocumented immigrant driving the wrong way down a street in St. Louis County.
Senator Hawley’s bill would “guarantee” the detention of illegal immigrants who commit crimes that “victimize children,” and guarantee detention for crimes involving the use of vehicles.
It’s being offered as an amendment to the Laken Riley Act, which was passed in its initial form by the U.S. House last week.
That bill would expand mandatory jail time for undocumented immigrants arrested for crimes such as burglary and shoplifting.
