Joplin Empire Market to host 6th-Annual Chili Cookoff
The 6th Annual Empire Market Chili Cookoff will be hosted at the Empire Market on Saturday, January 18th.
Once again, local home cooks and chefs alike will compete for the cash prizes and bragging rights in front of the general public and a panel of judges. Contestants will be bringing chilis ranging from hearty Tex–Mex–inspired versions, to smoked white chicken chili, brisket chili, spicy turkey chili, and traditional chili.
Judging will start at 10 a.m.
Public tasting begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Lineman’s Hall (Hall 1) – a $5 suggested donation will allow you to visit all contestants and get cups of chili to try (until supplies run out).
Complementary crackers will be provided. All proceeds from the tasting will go towards the Empire Market facility, specifically this year, the “Light Up the Night” fundraising campaign designed to bring courtyard lights back to the market, so outdoor events can be held once again at night.
Cash prizes and trophies will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as a trophy for People’s Choice.
All proceeds of the fundraiser will benefit the Empire Market and Downtown Joplin Alliance. Anyone with queries are encouraged to reach out to Kearstin Mattox at kearstin@downtownjoplin.com.
The market will be open regular Saturday hours from 10 a.m. –2 p.m.
