Parks and Rec actively using MDC Forestry Cost-share Grant for pruning in parks
The City of Joplin recently was awarded a Community Forestry Cost-share Grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). Community Forestry Cost-share assists communities with promoting the benefits of and improving their community forests.
With this grant, Joplin Parks and Recreation can update its existing tree inventory, assess trees for risk in city parks, and prune trees in Campbell Parkway and Senator Ron Richard Memorial Park.
Centrally located in Joplin, this area is a popular destination for the public.
City staff utilize the collected information to make decisions about tree care that benefit citizens and improve the safety and health of the pruned trees in Campbell Parkway and Senator Ron Richard Memorial Park.
“Missouri Department of Conservation has been a great partner with the City throughout the years on various projects,” said Paul Bloomberg, Parks and Recreation Director. “They bring many helpful resources to us and our community, and we appreciate their assistance in caring for our urban forests.”
MDC’s Community Conservation Program promotes sustainable development practices and the establishment of natural resource conservation practices in municipal and developing areas. Their support helps the City maintain its Tree City USA status.
