Joplin City Council approves 20th Street Widening Project
The Joplin City Council has approved a $9.87 million project to widen 20th Street on the west side of town.
This would make 20th Street a three-lane road west of Schifferdecker Avenue to Central City Road.
The project also adds a 12-foot-wide shared use path and curbs and gutters.
There will also be two roundabouts added. One in front of Twin Hills Country Club and another at the intersection with Central City Road.
City officials say funding is coming from several sources, including the Capital Improvement Sales Tax Program that voters first approved in 2014, but extended in April.
Money is also coming from the American Rescue Plan Act and some assistance is being provided by the Joplin Special Road District.
Emery Sapp and Sons Inc., out of Springfield was awarded the contract.
It should start early next year and is set to be completed by September 30, 2026.
