Missouri Farm Bureau criticizes Postal Service’s new consolidation plan

The Missouri Farm Bureau is not happy about plans by the U.S. Postal Service to overhaul its mail processing.

The proposal would prioritize faster mail delivery for people living within 50 miles of the Postal Service’s largest processing centers.

It would also result in rural mail delivery taking an extra day.

Missouri Farm Bureau President Garrett Hawkins sent a letter to US Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, saying their members are “already frustrated” by slow delivery times and apparent inefficiency.

He says that further restricting access in rural areas only worsens the issue.

Hawkins is asking the postal service to develop a plan that prioritizes equal treatment between rural and urban Missourians.

DeJoy has served under the Biden and Trump Administrations.
