MSSU to host International Thanksgiving Luncheon
JOPLIN, Mo — Missouri Southern will host the fourth annual Thanksgiving Luncheon for international students on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. in the Ron Richard Athletic Center.
Hosted by President Dean and Mary Van Galen, this exclusive celebration for international students invites them to experience an American tradition with campus and community leaders.
“This is an opportunity for students to learn about American Thanksgiving customs and try traditional Thanksgiving foods,” said Dr. Stephanie Goad, senior coordinator of International Admissions & Recruitment at MSSU. “They can learn what the holiday is about and why we celebrate it.”
In addition to the food and fellowship, students may pose with the Thanksgiving turkey and write what they are thankful for on autumn leaves from trees on MSSU campus.
“I am looking forward to visiting with our students and seeing their reaction to some of the foods that they may be trying for the first time,” said Dr. Dean Van Galen, president of MSSU. “This is an opportunity for our international students to share their holiday traditions with us.”
This event is private and open to international students only. Business casual attire is required. Media representatives are welcome to attend to engage with students and university representatives.
