Police call shooting of juvenile in Parsons “a targeted crime”
On November 1, 2024, at around 11:34 pm, Parsons, Kansas Police were called to the 2400 block of Morgan Ave in Parsons for a report of a 13-year-old juvenile male that had been shot and needed medical attention.
Once the officers arrived at the area, they were directed to the juvenile who had been shot in the neck. Officers applied pressure to the wound as life saving measures until emergency medical services arrived.
Officers were able to obtain information about the shooting and the location. The juvenile told officers that he was walking down the street, and a dark colored car drove by and then stopped, and he felt a sharp pain in his neck. The juvenile was then able to run to one of his friend’s house, to seek help.
Officers ensured that the juvenile was cared for and then transported to Labette Health and that his mother and sibling also went with him. The juvenile was then transported to another hospital for treatment.
Officers were given the clothing and items from the juvenile as the hospital had to remove them. They located 45 caliber ammunition from his pants. The officers then canvassed the entire neighborhood to look for evidence of the crime. Officers and Detectives were able to locate a backpack belonging to the juvenile victim. In the backpack they located an iPad and electronic cigarettes that were used for ingesting marijuana.
They also located a small black .45 caliber firearm. The firearm that was located had part of the serial numbers missing. It was later discovered that the firearm was stolen from a Parsons resident on October 17th and is believed to have been in possession of the juvenile victim.
Parsons Police ask that any resident that has camera footage of the area from Friday night to please review the footage and see if there is any information leading to the suspects of the shooting of the juvenile.
