The Werehouse highlights area haunted houses
Looking for something pulse-pounding as Halloween draws near?
The Werehouse in Joplin highlights several haunted houses in the area that might give you the frights you’re looking for this spooky season.
“We’re unlike any other haunted house in the area,” The Werehouse owner Gerald Gess said to NewsTalk KZRG. “Most other haunted houses don’t have animatronics, and we have almost 30 now. It’s just a little bit different of an atmosphere than most haunted houses in the area.”
If you have never been to a haunted house, it is important to know a few things beforehand to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.
It is best to immerse yourself in the experience, meaning go into the haunted house with excitement and not timidness.
“We get a lot of people who are worried they are going to hit someone (when they get scared),” Jamie Gess, Director of The Werehouse said. “We want people to be more excited than fearful (when visiting).”
When asked what was the best way to experience The Werehouse, Gerald Gess was quick to answer that the best way to see the attraction is with a big group.
“A lot of it is the timing of the house,” Gerald Gess said. “A lot of haunted houses, it’s usually the first person who gets scared when you first come in because they always see the group and try to jump out. We try to time everything to not only get the first person, but also the rest of the people in the group so everyone together gets a good scare.”
While The Werehouse is welcome to everyone, it is cautioned that small children may be too scared to make it all the way through. Gerald and Jamie Gess recommend their haunted house to ages 12 or 13 and up.
The Werehouse is open Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. as well as Halloween weekend, Oct. 31-Nov 2.
