Fatality pedestrian crash in Joplin Thursday evening

There was a fatality vehicle-pedestrian crash at Murphy Boulevard and North Main Street in Joplin around 5:46 last night.

The Joplin Police Department says the initial investigation indicates that a white 2014 Jeep Wrangler was making a left turn onto southbound Main Street from Murphy Boulevard and struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk.

The Jeep driver, 30-year-old Destinie Steinkraus, of Joplin was not injured. The pedestrian, 39-year-old Abby Zeb of Joplin was transported to Mercy Joplin where she died a short time later.

The investigation into this incident continues by the Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team. It was the 12th fatal crash in Joplin in 2024 and the 4th fatality involving a pedestrian.
