Lamar man on motorized bicycle hit from the rear by SUV, killed, on I-49 near Jasper

A 21-year-old man from Lamar riding a Phatmoto motorized bicycle was killed in an accident on I-49 about a mile south of Jasper around 8:35 Saturday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a Buick Enclave driven by 71-year-old Stephen E. Broddle was northbound in the driving lane and struck the northbound motorized bicycle operated by 21-year old David J. Hurick Baughman in the rear.

He was not wearing a safety device.

Deputy Coronor Andrew Roughton pronounced Baughman dead at the scene of the accident.

It was southwest Missouri Troop D’s 89th fatality accident in 2024.
