Webb City fire fatality victim identified

The identity of a man who died in a fire in Webb City Thursday night has now been identified.

Webb City Fire Chief Andrew Roughton has identified the victim as 50-year-old Wyatt J. Fieker.

The fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday night in a single family dwelling at 604 S. Oronogo Street in Webb City.

Fire Department officials say Fieker was the only person in the dwelling in the residence at the time of the fire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jasper County Coroner.

It has not been determined if there were working smoke detectors in the dwelling at the time of the fire. Webb City Fire officials are urging everyone to have a smoke alarm(s( to check them regularly and to change the batteries at least once a year.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal Division is assisting in the investigation.

They say everyone should have a pre-determined plan of escape in case of a fire.
