Suspect arrested in Crawford County homicide
CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, and the Frontenac Police Department are conducting an investigation into the death of a man from Frontenac, Kansas.
At approximately 8:40 p.m., the Frontenac Police Department requested KBI assistance with the investigation. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded to the scene.
On Friday, Oct. 11, at approximately 8:20 p.m., the Frontenac Police Department received a 911 call reporting shots fired.
Police officers located the victim, Jonathan D. Brewer, 39, of Frontenac, unconscious at a neighbor’s residence at 803 N Cayuga, in Frontenac. EMS arrived and attempted live-saving measures but the victim was pronounced deceased.
Preliminary information indicates Brewer and a neighbor, identified as Michael C. Simpson, 19, of Frontenac, were involved in a dispute. Simpson is suspected of shooting Brewer during the altercation.
Simpson was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and then booked into the Crawford County Jail. Formal charges are pending.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is ongoing.
