New Traffic Pattern at I-49 & Route HH in Carthage beginning Tuesday
A new roundabout OPEN to traffic at Jasper County Route HH (Fir Road) at Dr. Russell Smith Way in Carthage beginning 7 a.m., Tuesday, October 15
Traffic Impacts:
- Southbound I-49-to-Jasper County HH (Fir Road) ramp (Exit 50) CLOSED
- Southbound I-49 drivers wishing to exit at Route HH should follow a signed detour and exit at Fairview Avenue (Exit 51) and take Chapel Road south
- New single-lane roundabout at Route HH (Fir Road) and Dr. Russell Smith Way OPEN to traffic
- Drivers will continue to access Dr. Russell Smith Way via a temporary access road on the Route HH-to-southbound -I-49 ramp
- Traffic will remain in this pattern for most of the rest of the intersection improvement project, until sometime in early 2025
- Drivers should expect slowed traffic, traffic delays
- Crews and large equipment near traffic
- Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
- Drivers should consider alternate routes during the project
- Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts
Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.
This work is part of a project to build a roundabout at Route HH (Fir Road) and Dr. Russell Smith Way. Contractor crews are converting the intersection just west of I-49 into a single-lane roundabout.
The project is a 50/50 cost-share with the City of Carthage.
