Mystery surrounds Missouri bird flu case
The mystery continues over how a Missouri man came down with the bird flu — without having any animal contact.
Experts say in some viral cases, the cause of transmission is never determined.
But at this time, infectious diseases specialist Doctor Doug Kasper at OSF Healthcare says there’s little reason to be worried:
“So right now, the concern is very mild. There is no confirmation that there has been any human-to-human spread, and the cases that have occurred from animal to human have resulted in mild illness, with all patients recovering.”
Missouri health officials are still waiting on blood tests to come back on six health care workers who say they also got sick after coming into contact with the one confirmed case in the state.
They want to know if they also had bird flu.
