Federal court rules former KCPD detective unlawfully entered property of man he shot to death
Another lost court battle for a former Kansas City police officer.
A federal judge has ruled that former Kansas City police detective Eric DeValkenaere unlawfully entered the property of Cameron Lamb in 2019, violating the U.S. Constitution’s Fourth Amendment against “unreasonable search and seizures.”
DeValkenaere fatally shot Lamb and is now serving a 6-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter.
DeValkenaere’s family wants Governor Mike Parson to either pardon him or grant clemency, while Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker has urged the governor not to.
Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe, who’s running for governor, has indicated that he would strongly consider pardoning DeValkenaere.
Attorney General Andrew Bailey has also called for DeValkenaere’s conviction to be overturned or that he at least be granted a new trial.
