U.S. Senate Republicans block Democrat-led bill to federally protect fertility treatments
For the second time in three months, U.S. Senate Republicans have blocked a Democrat-led bill to federally-protect fertility treatments.
Missouri U.S. Senators Eric Schmitt and Josh Hawley, both Republicans, opposed the plan that would have also required insurance coverage for invitro fertilization.
“IVF is protected in Missouri. I support IVF. I know good friends of mine who have gone through that process,” Senator Schmitt said.
“They should be supported. It should be available. It should be more afforded, quite frankly,”Schmitt added. So it’s not at risk anywhere. It was. just sort of a showboat with an election six weeks away to try to make a point.
Democrat Chuck Schumer has said Republicans cannot claim to be pro-family, and then vote against IVF protection bills.
