Congressman Graves seeks to prevent U.S. government from federal land grabs

Northern Missouri Congressman Sam Graves has introduced two bills aimed at protecting landowners from federal land seizures. 

The “Rails to Trails Landowner Rights Act” requires trail sponsors to get approval from all impacted landowners a trail corridor goes through before a railroad can be repurposed into a recreational trail. 

He says that owners are ‘unfairly’ cut out of the process. 

The “Protecting Our Farmers from the Green New Deal Act” aims to protect farmers and landowners from the federal government using eminent domain to take and use land. 

Graves, citing the Fifth Amendment, says that stronger laws are needed to protect landowner rights.
