Equipment failure causes head-on accident, kills man from Nevada

An accident on U.S. 54 in St. Clair County took the life of a motorcycle rider from Nevada, Mo. around 4:45 Saturday afternoon.

The Highway Patrol says a Chrysler Town & Country van driven by 23-year-old James A. Moyers of Oak Grove Missouri had an equipment failure, crossed the centerline and hit a motorcycle operated by 63-year-old Jesse E. Murray of Nevada who was ejected on impact.

The van then went off the road and struck a fence.

Murray was pronounced dead at the scene. Moyers and a 12-year-old female passenger in  the van both had minor injuries.

Moore’s death was SW Missouri Troop D’s 76^th fatality for 2024.
