Neosho structure fire causes extensive damage, kills pet

The Neosho Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 3:26 p.m. on Thursday, September 12.

Upon arrival, a two-story wood framed residential structure was found with smoke showing from the first and second floors.

A 360-walk around was done and fire was showing on the rear of the structure. Crews made an aggressive interior attack and knocked down the fire on the first-floor and then they attacked the second-floor fire.

A primary search was completed, and no victims were found in the home.

Fire Crews checked for extension in the walls and attic, when the attic was opened, heavy fire conditions were found, and the attic flashed causing the entire attic to catch fire. Fire crews evacuated the structure due to flashover conditions and begin an aggressive exterior attack. Once the attic was under control, fire crews began another interior attack and extinguished the fire.

Mutual Aid was received from Redings Mill Fire Protection District, Goodman Area Fire Protection District, Joplin Fire Department, Newton County Ambulance, Neosho Police Department, and Neosho Public Works Department.

The residence has extensive fire damage. The cause of the fire was accidental and originated in the kitchen.

There are no injuries to Fire Fighters or the residence of the home.

One pet perished in the fire.
