Women arrested for felony assault, property damage after shooting in Jasper
A woman is being held with no bond in the Jasper County jail following a shooting in Jasper early Friday morning.
On Friday at 3 a.m., the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office found a male in the front yard of the residence at 606 E. Maiden Lane in Jasper suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.
A female also was located at the residence.
The Jasper Police Department took over the investigation.
Jasper Police said the female subject, Sommer Closser, appeared severely intoxicated.
Closser allegedly became angry and an argument with the male (her boyfriend) ensued and she brandished a firearm. During a physical struggle between the male and Closser, the firearm was discharged by Closser, striking the male.
Closser allegedly attempted to cover up the shooting by placing her hand over the male’s mouth and telling him to say it was an accidental shooting.
Closser was arrested for probable cause domestic assault 2nd degree and unlawful use of a weapon.
After being taken into custody, she became combative with deputies, refusing to cooperate and becoming violent. Police say she attempted to escape custody by getting a wrist free from the handcuffs, and kicking the patrol car door.
Closser was charged for attempted escape from custody (a felony) and property damage.
The male victim was transported to Mercy Joplin via ambulance and was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
Closser faces three felony charges and one misdemeanor.
She could also face charges for endangering the welfare of a child. Children Center interviews with the children are scheduled for later today.
