Six children injured – one seriously – in accident north of Springfield

Six children were injured – one seriously – in an accident Thursday afternoon on M-15 six miles north of Springfield at Farm Road 56.

The Highway Patrol says a car driven by 72-year-old Susie Schmips of Williard traveled into the path of a car driven by 50-year-old Jenny L. Sullens of Brighton.

The Schimps vehicle was struck broadside.

Both drivers had minor injuries.

All six children in the Sullens vehicle- ranging in age from two to 10 – were injured.

A ten-year-old-boy, the only one of the eight people in both cars wearing a safety device, was seriously injured.

He and the rest of the injured were taken by ambulance to Mercy-Springfield Hospital.
