Near-drowning on Elk River; victim listed in critical but stable condition

A near-drowning on Elk River ended on what appears to be a positive note.

Around 5 p.m. Wednesday night, McDonald County Deputies, Noel Fire Department and the Noel Marshals Office was dispatched to the Elk River behind Shadow Lake nightclub for a reported drowning. An off duty Anderson officer was in the area and also responded.
McDonald County Deputies and fire personnel arrived on the scene within 3 minutes of the dispatch. Upon arriving, the off duty officer was performing CPR on a minor male, reportedly age 15, and advised that when he arrived, CPR had been provided by bystanders.
It was determined that the victim had regained a pulse but was not breathing effectively. Fire and law enforcement personnel continued to provide rescue breathing for the victim.
Upon the arrival of Freeman Ambulance personnel, the victim’s care was transferred to them. The victim was then flown to a Springfield hospital.
As of 1 p.m. today, [Thursday, August 15]  the teen is listed as “Critical but, stable” condition.
